What is the PROCESS TYPE of this metaphorical clause?
  1. Not material, because the simple present tense doesn't carry the added feature 'habitual'.
  2. Not mental, because the Medium is not conscious.
  3. Not relational, because neither an ascribing nor identifying relation is assigned between Medium and Range.
  4. Not existential, because of the presence of a Range.
  5. Not behavioural, because the Medium is not conscious and the Range is not a behaviour.
This leaves verbal as the only possibility, with the Medium as Sayer (a 'signal source') and the Range, light, as Verbiage:
